Advancing Open-Source Robotics Education Through Collaboration

by Duncan Miller on February 26, 2025
We are excited to announce our we are working with RealMan Robotics to develop educational content aimed at empowering the next generation of roboticists. This collaboration focuses on creating comprehensive tutorials and courses that leverage open-source robotics hardware and software.

RealMan Robotics, an open-source robotics hardware manufacturer based in Beijing, has been a pioneer in the development of ultra-lightweight humanoid robotic arms since 2010. Their commitment to open-source hardware and versatile software support has made them a standout in the robotics community.

RealMan's robotic arms are compatible with multiple programming languages, including C++, Python, MATLAB, and integrate seamlessly with the Robot Operating System (ROS) and ROS2 ecosystems.

Open-Source Commitment

RealMan's dedication to open-source principles is evident through their documentation and comprehensive support for ROS, the widely adopted open-source robotics middleware. They provide extensive resources, including a GitHub repository that offers ROS support for their robotic arms, facilitating developers in customizing and enhancing robotic functionalities.

Versatile Programming Support

Understanding the diverse needs of developers and researchers, RealMan ensures that their robotic arms are accessible through various programming environments:
  • C++ and Python: Developers can utilize these languages for real-time control and integration, leveraging the open API library that supports both.
  • MATLAB: For those in academic and research settings, MATLAB offers a robust platform for algorithm development and data analysis. RealMan's integration with MATLAB allows for seamless communication with ROS networks, enabling users to create and deploy ROS nodes directly from MATLAB and Simulink.

Education Initiative

This collaboration aims to enhance the educational resources available to students and enthusiasts and also foster a community centered around innovation and open-source robotics hardware and software.

Together, RealMan Robotics and Rose City Robotics are paving the way for accessible and advanced robotics education, ensuring that learners are well-equipped to contribute to the evolving field of robotics.
